“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2,” the final part of the hit record breaking franchise, opened to an estimated $101 million at the box office, the lowest opening for a “Hunger Games” movie at the domestic box office.
The movie which racked in $247 million globally, fell short of projections that the picture would open to $300 million worldwide domestically.
Despite its low opening, the movie is currently the the year's fifth biggest opening.
The first part of "The Hunger Games : The Mockingjay" ended up grossing $337 million domestically in 2014, after a $121.9 million opening.
"Spectre" which took the 1st spot last week, dropped to second place with $14.6 million.
"The Peanuts Movie" took the third place with $12.8 million, while "The Night Before" took the fourth spot with $10.1 million.
Julia Roberts "Secret in their Eyes" opened in fifth place with $6.7 million.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay' stars Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Julianne Moore, Mahershala Ali, Natalie Dormer, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson and Evan Ross.
The blockbuster Hunger Games franchise, has grossed more than $2.2 billion at the global box office.
